A Jaw-Dropping Makeover Includes Proper Skin Care - Trust Me

Updated January, 2020

As a professional makeup artist and a licensed esthetician (skin care specialist) who is also hair and fashion savvy, I can confidently testify that makeup can only go so far.

Sure, Instagram is flooded with uber talented makeup artists and famous beauty vloggers that wow their followers and passing spectators with their dazzling photos of crazy good makeup techniques: sultry smoky eyes that are 'on point' and perfectly groomed eyebrows that are 'on fleek' (social media jargon).

Or foundation and blush applied so flawlessly, it almost looks angelic, perhaps too good to be true. But omit the photoshop, photography-enhancing software, and Instagram filters (thank goodness for those), you can see the person's true skin- well, to a degree.

Makeup does, without a doubt, conceal flaws and impart a more 'flawless' canvass, but my point is, it can only do so much, as I mentioned earlier.

A talented makeup artist knows how to hide a nasty blemish, but sometimes flaws attempted to be masked under thick makeup are still visible. That's not exactly a pretty picture. That is why I chose to become both an Esthetician and Makeup Artist, because proper skin care and proper makeup application go hand in hand like peanut butter and jelly.

When you take good care of your skin first and foremost, your makeup will be applied much smoother and will impart a healthier-looking glow.

Take me for instance. When my skin is looking a little dull, I do make myself look better with makeup, but I still lack that true glow that only a nutritious diet and quality skin care regimen can give. I'm not talking about your basic cleanse and moisturize. I mean truly taking proper care of my skin.

Here is what I do for my skin morning and night:

Morning

1. Cleanse
2. Apply a Vitamin C Serum
3. Apply an eye cream formulated for daytime
4. Apply a lightweight moisturizer that contains anti-aging ingredients such as peptides
5. Apply a moisturizer with a built-in broad spectrum sunscreen
6. Apply makeup

Night

1. Cleanse
2. Exfoliate (2-3 times per week)
3. Apply an anti-aging serum that contains ingredients such as stem cells and peptides
4. Apply an eye cream formulated for nighttime
5. Apply a medium-weight moisturizer that contains hydrating ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid.

Additionally, once or twice a month (at night), I perform a deeper exfoliation on myself with my at-home microdermabrasion device. It takes my skin care regimen to a whole new level without having to step foot in a spa or dermatologist's office.

I attend a few red carpet events a year as I dabble in the entertainment industry, so my at-home microderm treatment is perfect for prepping my skin for a gala or big celebrity event. In fact, I call my microderm treatment 'Resurface for the Red Carpet' because that's exactly what it is.

My skin is polished and resurfaced to ensure I get that red carpet, celebrity-esque glow. The microderm system is reasonable in price, and you'll get the same results as you would at a high-end spa in Beverly Hills that frequently services the stars.

So if you want a true transformation, a mere makeover at the MAC counter won't suffice. You have to incorporate quality skin care products in your regimen, including an at-home microderm device that will encourage a smoother, younger-looking complexion. After all, microdermabrasion is a skin care secret many celebrities do to maintain their enviably beautiful skin.
